Bannammao Resort

One night around midnight, two men suddenly came into my room. I thought I was about to be robbed, but it was one of the owners with a drunk German guest. The next day reception explained that the guest had told the owner my room was his. I was shocked that nobody checked who was staying there before opening the door. Nothing like that has happened to me before. The hotel also charged me 1,000 Baht / 30 USD for a thumbprint-sized blood spot on the bedding, then 1,700 Baht for a small stain on the sheets and a tiny one on the pillowcase. I'd have paid replacement costs if I'd permanently damaged anything, but charging so much to remove small stains from old sheets is disgraceful. I hate to imagine what would happen if a woman had a problem during her menstrual period. There are rules and penalty signs all over the place, too. The room smelled bad at first, though leaving the balcony door open for a few days helped. The bedroom furniture looked as old as the hotel, and compared with other places in the area at the same price, it really isn't good enough. The place may have been nice when it was built last century, but now it badly needs renovation, refurbishment, or at least a good clean. It's near the beach and a small lively area with restaurants and massage shops, but sits on a dark side street with lots of feral soi dogs. It seemed that some of them actually lived at the hotel, so anyone who dislikes dogs should give it a miss. The atmosphere felt like a nursing home for poor foreigners. I'm 63, but felt like a teenager next to the other guests. They call this a resort, but to me it's just a hotel with a pool, restaurant, and bar, with no other services. Just the last resort. I'd only stay again if every hotel within 100 km were full, and even then I'd be very wary.
