House of Love at Pai

The rooms were okay, but they could really use a deep clean. We paid 3,500 baht for the week, and that didn’t include toilet paper or drinking water, which I’d expect at this price in Thailand, especially with all the plastic waste around. The owner tried to sell us a gallon of water for 50 baht when the usual price is 20, then pretty much kicked us out after we pointed that out. There’s no swimming pool, despite the first photo here showing one. The owner was also very unfriendly and poor at communicating. Disappointing stay, and there are much better places in Pai.

I spent about two months in Pai, including around six weeks at the "house of love Pai," and I’d happily return. It’s roughly five minutes from town center, and the price was very good. Kiki was lovely, and the guesthouse was just as nice. The private rooms are cozy and very clean. Whenever I asked for cleaning or fresh towels, they took care of it gladly. My room had a comfortable bed with a keel, a desk, TV, air conditioning, and a refrigerator. The shower had nice hot water too. I really enjoyed sitting on the outdoor mattresses on the balcony and looking out over the green yard. You can ride your motorcycle right up to the room.

We meant to stay three nights and ended up adding two more. The room was gorgeous, with a mosquito net, daily cleaning, and a really comfortable bed. Even two pillows, which is rare in Thailand! The staff work hard to keep everything tidy, and the reception team and owner were always ready to help with advice or taxis. It’s a little out of town, though easy enough to reach by bike. The dogs were cuddly and affectionate with us, despite the negative things other reviews say. They’d wait outside our room for more attention. They did bark sometimes after dark, but never acted aggressively. They seemed to be protecting their home, like a dog might bark when someone rings your doorbell. If you’re scared of dogs, this might not be the place for you. If you want to make some furry friends, I’d recommend it. See the photos for the “extremely savage dog.” Thanks for a lovely stay. We arrived to four very intimidating dogs barking, and the host did nothing to settle them. The room also looked nothing like the photos, and there were mosquitoes, ants, and lizards everywhere. We ended up booking somewhere else. If you’re happy sleeping close to nature and bugs don’t bother you, it might suit you, but it wasn’t what we wanted.
