SR Sea View Apartments

The main pool at Sai Rougn is excellent, and the restaurant there, “J&Pizza,” is reasonably priced for the quality. We loved getting pizza and snacks from the pool bar with a few afternoon drinks. Try the pool area’s signature “Passion Fruit Mojito,” served by the wonderful lady behind the bar. It’ll knock your socks off. There’s also a small, quiet pool at SR Apartments, and we found the staff some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. We really miss their smiling faces when we head home. We’ve stayed here twice and are already looking at booking again next year. You’ll be hard-pressed to find better value for money in Patong, and it feels like you get more than you pay for. The location is close enough to everything in Patong, but it’s just outside the madness, so nights are silent. No traffic or Bangla chaos, just cicadas at sunset and birds calling from the greenery. Malin Plaza is a 10-minute walk, the beach about 15, and Bangla Road around 30. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby too. One caveat, the apartments are at the top of a steep hill, about 200 steps from bottom to top. If you’re fit or hiring a bike, it’s manageable and these apartments and the adjoining Sai Rougn Hotel are practically perfect. With mobility issues, you’d need taxis up and down, which can add up. It’s not five-star luxury, and there are rough edges. An odd tile might be missing, something may hang crooked, the ceiling fan might not work, or the taps may not sit straight. The AC unit might drip on you while you’re smoking on the balcony. But the location, service, and affordability more than make up for the lack of polish. We love this place, and if you can handle the hill, you probably will too.

The room was dirty and in poor condition, nothing like the photos online, which looked obviously photoshopped. The corridors smelled of cannabis from other rooms. We moved to another hotel, but they refused to refund us. It’s also at the top of a very steep hill. Wouldn’t recommend.

Our four-night stay was a nightmare, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. The room’s air conditioning didn’t work properly. We told the staff repeatedly, but it was never fixed. A technician came on the first night with no improvement. When we asked to change rooms, they gave us only a standing fan. We asked again the next morning, but when we came back later, the AC was still the same. After further complaints, the receptionist showed us two other rooms, but both had the same broken AC. We spent three nights uncomfortable. The receptionist, a lady with a double chin, was the most disrespectful hotel staff member I’ve ever encountered. She didn’t know how to deal with customers and even raised her voice instead of helping, which made everything more frustrating. We also noticed discriminatory treatment in the hotel restaurant. The woman making omelets didn’t greet us, but made a point of saying “good morning” to lighter-skinned diners. We saw other guests with darker skin tones get similar treatment. That’s completely unacceptable. The service was terrible, the accommodations uncomfortable, and the way customers were treated was shocking. I’d never stay here again and strongly advise others to avoid it.

After a full day of travel, this was seriously disappointing. I opened the door to find a huge cockroach on the pillow. The attendant just opened a window and threw it out. The rooms look nothing like the pictures on the site, which are totally deceiving, and they won’t refund you, clearly because the place isn’t up to standard. We booked an apartment with two bedrooms, as shown in the pictures, but got two separate, plain, deteriorating rooms instead, with no kitchenette. These apartments are not apartments. The beds were old, caved in, and very uncomfortable. Wi-Fi was weak and basically nonexistent. When I asked the attendant for another room, she was extremely cold and unhelpful, said they were full, and told me to take it up with the agents. I assume that means Agoda, who we booked through. Agoda seriously needs to update the photos to show the real situation, because this is not okay. Total scam, awful arrival, and I do not recommend this place at all. Save yourselves and your money.
