Baan Khung Thara Ayutthaya

I was looking for a quiet weekend away from the tourist crowds, and Baan Kung Thara was just right. It sits by the water in a scenic, peaceful spot. The room was spacious and clean, with a super comfortable bed. The traditional Thai desserts at breakfast were delicious. Staff were always smiling, friendly, and ready to answer my questions. They also gave me useful suggestions for sightseeing and getting around. The place brings together traditional Thai architecture and modern comforts, and I had a lovely stay this past Saturday.

I stayed in a villa for a few weekdays and mostly had the ‘village’ to myself, which made the place feel extra special. Sitting on the deck surrounded by greenery with birdsong in the background was such a treat. Breakfast was tasty and generous, and the common area had interesting pieces and inviting spots to sit and read. The villa showed a little age, but it was clearly cared for with love. The wood floors and furniture were clean, the bathroom immaculate, the bedding comfortable, and there were generous supplies in both the minibar and bathroom. I loved the greenery, teak, retro collections, and the way the architecture blends old character with modern comfort. The owner was kind and interesting, with a background in tourism research. He pointed me to nearby restaurants and found out that it cost B 300 to rent traditional Thai dress for my sister to pose in at a nearby temple for the day. His wife designed the accommodation beautifully. The cleaning staff were professional and didn’t miss a spot. We had a laugh together as they swept leaves, then a breeze dropped more on them. I’d stayed in central Old Ayutthaya before, but preferred this more restful side of the river, especially at this family-run place, Baan Khung Thara. I’d gladly come back for longer.

The back garden has a superb view of the river and temple, and the place is wonderfully quiet and relaxing. My room was very clean, furnished in traditional Thai style, and had enough lighting. Every staff member provided great service, and the owner was especially friendly and nice. There’s plenty of parking, plus free bicycles for nearby trips, which was really convenient. Breakfast included American-style food, pork boiled rice, and Thai desserts.

We had a villa and a great room, and the staff were lovely. There are two good restaurants nearby, and it’s under a 100THB Bolt ride away. I’d be very happy to come back.
