Sunset Beach Resort

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the pool was very enjoyable. Kalim Beach is a short walk away and good for a swim, with crystal-clear water; the sunset view is magnificent. The location is convenient, about 2 km from the busiest part of Patong Beach, Bangla street. There’s a free shuttle to Bangla Street every hour, but it’s hard to catch one back, so you’ll need Grab or Bolt. I started out in a studio room for a few nights. It was a little old and run-down, particularly the bathroom, though renovations are underway and hopefully will update it. I then moved to a sea-view room, which was much more up to date. Unfortunately, overhead electric cables along the road partly blocked the otherwise great sea view. Good value for money, and a quiet family-friendly spot in Phuket that’s still not too far from the central excitement.

I’m filing a formal complaint about the receptionist working the evening of March 6th. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in a hotel. I tried to check in on 6.3. 2026 and asked a young man at reception whether it was better to book online or directly. He said the hotel was too expensive for me and told me to leave. I explained that I was pregnant and wanted to stay, but he told me to come back the next day. He also said booking through Booking.com might be possible. Other guests arrived to check in and he refused them too. He was rude and verbally insulting. I left and made an online reservation instead. No staff member greeted me, helped with my luggage, or offered assistance. The hotel itself is run-down and in poor condition. This was by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Never again.

The location is still the strongest point: close to the activity, but far enough away to enjoy Thailand’s peace and quiet. I’d stayed at Sunset Resort twice before over the past 10 years, and both visits were very different from this one. It had always been affordable and good value, which is why I came back. This time, though, the customer service had clearly dropped. Staff seemed uninterested, and basic requests felt like a nuisance. We waited until 5pm for the room to be attended to, despite asking several times. Calls to reception also went unanswered multiple times, which I found strange. I can’t quite say what changed, but the overall care and guest experience were disappointing. I’ve loved this accommodation and enjoyed my earlier stays, so it’s a real shame. I’m not sure I’ll return.

Rachelle, the Manager, surprised my daughter with a birthday cake and decorations on the bed for her 21st, and we appreciated it so much. Sarah and Aim welcomed us at the front desk with big smiles, and the porters brought our suitcases straight from the cab to the room. Everyone we met, from reception and porters to cleaners, dining hall staff, and gardeners, greeted guests with a smile. The room was clean and spacious, with modern controls for the lights, plugs, and air conditioning. The hotel is close to Patong beach. Thank you, Team Sunset beach, for a great stay. Keep up the good work!
