De Coze Hotel

I was traveling with my wife late at night, and the hotel was holding a large security deposit, so I felt pressured to agree to pay more. A small booking mistake came up, but the owner wouldn’t help resolve it and kept sending me elsewhere, even though only the hotel could approve the change. The room was available online for less, yet I was asked to pay extra to change the booking. At the last minute, they raised the amount again and asked me to write and sign that I was paying voluntarily. It felt unfair and unprofessional. Guests shouldn’t be put under that kind of pressure over a simple issue.

After a long trip to Phuket, this was a comfortable place to settle in. My spacious Superior Double room had a bathtub and a mountain view with palm trees. It’s tucked down a side street near lots of shops and good restaurants, and the staff helped with anything I needed, day or night. The beach is about 15 minutes away, less than half a mile. I’d definitely recommend it.

I booked four nights but had to arrive a day late, so I messaged the website I booked through. When I got there, the hotel had canceled the whole reservation and said they hadn’t received the message. They wouldn’t refund me and asked me to pay again, even though the room was still free. I’ve never seen a hotel handle this that way, since delays like this can happen. The receptionist was rude and no help. No apology or solution.

I booked through Agoda for 23-25 February 2026 at about 1600 THB, then made a second booking to extend my stay for 25-26 February. I accidentally booked 25-26 March instead. As soon as I realized at the property, I asked the owner to change the date. He, an Indian Punjabi, said Agoda had to do it. Agoda told me the hotel needed to approve the change and gave me its phone number and email. I emailed the hotel and heard nothing for two days. Staff then said the owner would only change the date if I paid another 1000 THB. I checked online and found the room for that night for around 1000 THB, less than my original booking, but they still wouldn’t help. It was late, I was with my wife, and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving to find somewhere else. The hotel was also holding my 1000 THB security deposit. Under that pressure, I agreed to pay the extra amount. They then raised it to 1300 THB and asked me to write and sign a statement saying I was paying voluntarily. The whole thing was stressful and felt very unfair. The room was available online for less, but the hotel wouldn’t help unless I paid more. Holding a large deposit and pressuring a guest with few options late at night is a poor way to treat customers.
