Villa Sonata Phuket

I wouldn't recommend this place. For £120 a night, it was one of my worst stays, and the property felt unhygienic, neglected, and badly managed. The room smelled and was dirty and poorly maintained. Furniture was cheap, visibly dirty, chipped, or broken, and some sockets looked burnt, which worried me as a safety issue. The bed was uneven and extremely uncomfortable, with poor-quality bedding. The bathroom was awful: sticky dirt on the floor, urine splashes on the walls, a strong urine smell, and a filthy, mouldy ventilation fan. Outside, the pool water was cloudy and bubbly, with leaves and dead insects, while the plants around it were neglected and rubbish was scattered about. For somewhere advertised as a villa, it was poorly equipped: just one plate, spoon, and fork, two water glasses for two people, and no kitchen towels. The breakfast area was uninviting and dirty, with broken tables and old, mouldy-looking artificial plants. Breakfast was basic and low quality, just instant coffee, toast, a plain omelette with a little salad, packaged juice, and three pieces of fruit. The staff made the stay even worse. Nobody greeted or welcomed us or offered help. They sat on their phones, seemed grumpy, avoided eye contact, and came across as if they didn't want to interact. The manager said our room would be changed, but it never happened. I contacted the property through Agoda to ask to move out and get a refund, and asked why the room hadn't been changed. None of my messages got a reply.

I first stayed at Villa sonata in 2023, when I came to Thailand, and it was decent then. I've returned for a few days each year since, but the condition of the place and the hospitality have gone downhill surprisingly badly. I checked out today and was only an hour late, yet they charged me 1000 baht. I had just 1200baht cash left for my airport taxi and other costs. I told the rude girl at the counter I'd stayed several times and asked if she could waive the fee for being 30 minutes over, but she still took the money. I can't say what happened to it, but it felt like she might have put it in her own pocket. The villa has bugs and insects everywhere, with strange insect sounds all around. The bed feels like it's been used for 10 years and is much too uncomfortable to sleep on. The private pool, which I imagine is a big reason people book, is small and short, and full of dirt, leaves, and dead insects. The location is also way too far from Patong, the main hub. Cabs take ages to arrive and cost too much even when they do. DO NOT BOOK this villa. Save your money. VILLA SONATA IS A BIG BIG NO FOR EVERYONE. -1/10. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THEM.

We booked three nights and left within an hour. The place wasn't being looked after, and while the online pictures looked great, the reality was the complete opposite. The pool wasn't clean, drainage was poor, and the shower head was clogged. Communication was poor as well. We'd come from Nz and paid a lot, so this was a huge disappointment for us. Hygiene can't be compromised, and they should know better.

The place looks good in the photos, but we found the stay disappointing. We were there for two nights, and the reception staff couldn't communicate well in English. Breakfast was the same each day, very small portions, and there wasn't a vegetarian option. The pool had no heater and wasn't cleaned; the front yard by it was full of dried leaves and very dirty. Water also pooled in the rooms, which is a serious hygiene concern, and there were no cells to contact reception. No one told us the checkout time. Around 12:30, they messaged us on WhatsApp to say checkout had passed, then charged a 1000 baht penalty. We managed to leave af 12:40, so that was really disappointing.
