The ShellSea Hotel

We celebrated our wedding here, and apart from a few small organizational issues while planning, the day itself went perfectly. Supattra and the whole team went above and beyond to make each moment special and seamless. Their care, attention and professionalism made us feel looked after, so we could enjoy such an important day. I’d choose this place again without hesitation. The grounds are gorgeous, with a hilly garden that slopes down toward the beach. The pools fit beautifully into the landscape and were lovely for relaxing or watching the sunset in peace. Our Pool Garden Seaview Villa was spacious and beautifully designed, with a stunning view that made us feel surrounded by nature as soon as we woke up. The whole property was spotless and impeccably maintained, and the staff were warm and attentive. It’s a dream location and one of the best resorts in Krabi. Thank you for making our wedding so special and memorable.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at The Shell Sea. The hotel has several pool areas, so there’s something for everyone, though the loungers under the trees are grubby and need updating. Staff were wonderful, the location was perfect for a peaceful escape from the bustle, and we didn’t need anything. We borrowed bikes to explore locally, and kayaks or paddle boards are also available for the bay. We loved the varied breakfast. We were glad we didn’t go to the islands, which looked like a cattle market, so we felt spoiled here. There’s also a rustic God-le shack 500m away. Turn right outside the hotel and walk up the road to find it on the right. The Thai food was amazing and authentic, in a perfect setting.

This was the biggest letdown of our month in Thailand. We expected much more given the price and 5-star rating. Our pool access room had a strong musty smell, apparently masked by intense artificial fragrance. It seemed the staff already knew about it. After we asked to move, the replacement room had no artificial scent and was somewhat acceptable. Getting around was a real problem. There’s little within walking distance, and hotel taxis cost about three times as much as Bolt. Bolt drivers often declined to come to the resort, so arranging transport was a constant challenge. The resort itself didn’t offer anything especially memorable or enjoyable that justified its 5-star status, and we were surprised that sauna use cost extra, which is uncommon at this level. We left feeling the experience didn’t match its price or rating and wasn’t good value.

For almost 10000 per night, the room condition and service were completely unacceptable. We raised the problems, but staff only looked uncomfortable and made no attempt to fix them. We were told checkout would be at 01.30, then a staff member called in the morning and told us to leave at 1. Very rude. Avoid staying here. We were in room 1204. The hotel has a pleasant environment and well-designed spaces, but maintenance in the room was extremely poor. Bathroom grout had turned yellow and deteriorated, and the drainage couldn’t keep up with a shower, so water flooded up to my feet. Only one sink worked; the other was clogged and overflowed. The bidet hose leaked onto the toilet floor, which should have stayed dry. There were water stains and black mould marks on the walls. The pillows smelled bad. I asked staff to replace all four, but none were down pillows as expected. They were shapeless, clumpy and uncomfortable, and even the new pillowcases smelled of sweat. The sheets didn’t feel clean or fresh either, and looked old and heavily reused. Old towels had stains and some hairs. The pool had no bar service, so everything was do it yourself. Food choices were limited and mostly cheap selections. Dirty plates stayed piled on our table, with no staff making an effort to clear them.
