Koh Mak Burihut Natural Resort

Loved it here. It’s a great little resort, with a nice pool, a small bar and restaurant, friendly staff, and clean, pleasant bungalows. You can rent scooters too. “B” at reception was amazing!

The woman who runs the place made sure we were comfortable and happy, and the staff made us feel at home. We spent a week at this lovely, peaceful resort. It was quiet, the rooms were clean, and the soft bed was amazing. For the price, it was great and felt romantic for couples. We didn’t rent a motorbike. The resort has its own taxi and quickly got us rides wherever we wanted to go. The island isn’t very big, so walking is an option if you enjoy it. The food was delicious. The woman cooking did an amazing job, with Thai and western choices at the on-site restaurant. Prices were reasonable for a place with a sea view. We found only a few cheaper spots on the island, and the atmosphere there wasn’t as nice and they had no views. There are lots of stairs. We chose a room that meant climbing even more, though the views made it worthwhile. I nearly fell twice. If the hotel remodels, I hope they add ramp walkways so guests have two options. The bathroom also takes away some of the romance when someone uses the toilet, haha. I’d open the room window and door to air it out. Still worth it for the price. Happy customers, thank you!

Don’t come expecting a nice beach. The sand here is red and the shore is rocky, so it’s not good for swimming. You can rent a motorbike to explore the island, which is small and easy to drive around. The restaurant is VERY expensive, so we didn’t eat there. We found cheaper, good places just a four-minute drive away. The resort itself was great. Our room was clean, large, and comfortable, and we got fresh water bottles every morning. There’s a big pool, a pier where you can watch the sunrise, and a very helpful receptionist.

The kind lady manager might seem quiet and reserved, but she gets things done for you. Food was standard, with good portions and reasonable prices. We were genuinely happy with our stay at Buri Hut, on the quiet side of Koh Mak. We were a family of four with young children, and the room felt a bit claustrophobic with the extra mattress. You need pretty good knees here, since the resort sits on a hillside and you’ll be walking up and down all day. The beach is a drawback too. It’s rocky and muddy, with coarser sand than beaches in the northeast and southeast of the island. The water is murky and underwater visibility is zero.
