We arrived around 23:00 and couldn’t find the entrance. Even the door marked “Reception” didn’t have the name “Esma” on it, only “Apart Hotel,” so I honestly couldn’t tell that it was the proper hotel I’d booked. When we knocked, the reception door was closed and an old man was asleep on the couch. It was the “warmest” welcome I’ve ever had. Our booked room was occupied by another guest who should have checked out, and the man told us so rudely. At least he offered us a room, because we thought we’d be left with nowhere to stay. There was a bad smell at reception, and it was hard to stay there even briefly. They wrote our passport/kimlik details on a piece of paper instead of entering them in a database. In the morning, they could have said we’d never been there at all if that paper had been lost. In the room, we got two single beds pushed apart. One squeaked so badly that we mostly stayed in the other. The bathroom only had cold water for about 12 minutes before it became just warm, and I started to think there was no hot water at all. We had extra blankets but only one set of towels. The room had an unpleasant, rather medieval smell too. Good luck, travelers. Take care on your way.
