Atalay Hotel

The staff handled things professionally, and that’s what makes this place work. Everything was clean and functioning, the breakfast was delicious, and the chef was great. The price and quality are acceptable, and it’s budget friendly for a short stay. The hotel seems old, so don’t expect a perfect or newly updated interior.

The good points were the respectful staff, competitive price, their ability to understand English, and quick responses when we called the front desk from the room. It’s a 13-minute taxi ride to the US Embassy. The room didn’t look like the advertising, and the furniture was old. The toilet kept running, which was disturbing at bedtime, and the bathtub was dirty. Cleaning staff opened our door without knocking or asking. The internet was extremely slow, even slower than phone 3G. Around 10 am it was very noisy, and staff woke us up several times. A phone outside the room kept ringing and was really annoying.

I’ve stayed here twice, and the staff are amazing. When our flight was cancelled, we couldn’t reach the hotel on the day we’d booked, but they rescheduled our booking. I’m very satisfied with the staff and would definitely recommend it.

The surrounding area is one of the worst in Ankara, and the hotel’s location, furniture, atmosphere, style, room types, and price all make me think you’d be better off finding a hotel in Kizilay. You might even find a better one for the same money. The room was dark and needs fresher furniture. The old pieces make it feel like an old hotel and don’t give the room the energy you’d want. I stayed in the suite, but expected more: it’s basically two rooms joined by an extra door, and could use some other changes. There’s a jacuzzi in the bath, which is nice, but the suite costs way too much. The price also seems wrong for a standard economy room, especially given the location. Price and amenities are probably balanced, though.
