The cheaper rooms have no bathroom, and there isn't even a shared shower. I usually stay in budget places, but I've never run into that before. Even cheap hostels and guesthouses normally have a shared shower. Very strange.
I planned to spend a day at Hotel Palan in Ankara, but left not long after I arrived. The room was very uncomfortable, with a strong, unpleasant smell of cigarette smoke and alcohol. Its door lock didn't work properly, and the light was so dim that the room felt dark and gloomy even in the afternoon. The whole place also felt unsafe. I wouldn't recommend staying here if safety and comfort matter to you.
The cheaper rooms only have a sink for washing your hands and a shared toilet. No shower at all, and no air conditioning or fan. There was a bad smell coming from the sink drain, and breakfast wasn't worth the price. The room was 750 TL and breakfast was 150 TL. Booking online may be cheaper, but honestly, it's better not to stay here at all. Have you ever seen a hotel without a shower?
The staff made a real impression on me. They were welcoming and did their best to help, even though not everyone may speak English. Breakfast was a nice Turkish-style meal, served in portions set out for each guest. My room was spacious enough and had a wardrobe, a couple of drawers, toiletries, a shower room, and a hair dryer. It’s an affordable place, and you can choose a room with or without a shower room, with a reasonable difference in price.
Being able to walk to the YHT station was convenient, and for one night the price made the stay manageable. The room itself was a letdown: the bed was uncomfortable, there were no extras like bottled water, and the bathroom felt cramped with water leaking from above. Early in the morning, someone was shoveling outside by the balcony or garden, right next to the window. I wouldn’t choose it for a longer stay.
