Köşk Hotel

We were woken at 8 a.m. by crushers and the shaking from a nearby old building being demolished. It felt almost like an earthquake. There was no room cleaning service, so we had to get and return towels and clean ourselves. There was no soap or shampoo, no hairdryer, and no closet. The housekeeper was also the manager, and I saw her preparing our room when we received it. The hotel is run by a family, two women and a young boy. We had agreed that we'd arrive early and check in at 11 a.m., but the manager greeted us rudely and said we couldn't have a room until 2, because that was the hotel's system. Around 12:30, her manner changed, and she said she'd have a room for us in an hour. The room we got had no balcony and an old TV, though our booking was for a deluxe double with a balcony and TV. When I showed the booking conditions and photos, she said the hotel was full and insisted that was what I'd reserved. After a long, upsetting discussion, I said I'd report everything to Booking. She gave me another key and said she'd cover the price difference from her pension, since the problem was the hotel's. But later that evening, she demanded $40 from me. I reminded her what she'd said, and she got angry and acted as if I were to blame. The next day she offered a deluxe double room like the one I'd booked, but said I had to pay another $40. I paid just to avoid more distress. From arrival to departure, I was treated very badly, and the room wasn't what my booking described. I asked to cancel, but she refused, so I stayed rather than lose my money. They increase the price when you arrive, then may give you an old, small room instead of the one you booked. If you refuse, they ask for more money. One guest ended up with an old TV in a small room, and I heard that booking fees were also increased on arrival. Nothing about my stay was good. Avoid booking this hotel.

There are plenty of cafes and shops within walking distance, the old city is close by, and the tram stops right outside the hotel. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and cool. For the price, I was satisfied. It would help if they knew a couple of simple English phrases to make communication easier.

The owner was really nice and talkative, the bathrooms were clean, and the air conditioning worked. Very good accommodation, I'll definitely come back!

Friendly staff and a great location are the reasons we gave it 2 stars. The area was quiet, which was good for sleeping, and we could leave our luggage for free, though there was no locked storage room. We paid £22 for one night and were still charged 20tl for the air conditioning, which wasn't mentioned in the booking. The bathroom had no soap or shampoo. WiFi didn't work on the third floor; I connected to the fourth-floor network, but the signal was weak. The balcony door wouldn't close properly, and one of the linens was cut, as shown in the picture.
