Twenty Hotel

Avoid this place. The roof terrace has a lovely view, but it felt too unwelcoming to sit there. Staff were very rude, and I didn’t feel welcome at all. The pictures online are misleading, because the hotel looks nothing like them. There’s a shiny, clean-looking floor at the entrance, and that’s where the positives stop. The place was filthy and smelled awful, like it hadn’t been cleaned since it was built. I felt dirtier getting out of the shower. I’ve stayed in better hostels.

After five nights, our room still hadn’t been cleaned once. It was dirty and had a strong sewage smell, and we developed bites that we think came from bed bugs. We’d already been moved once because of the smell, and it felt as if that was being treated as a favor rather than basic service. Then the air conditioning broke in heat above 40°C. When we politely asked to change rooms, the daytime receptionist was rude and aggressive, said the hotel was fully booked, and wanted a fee just to “consider” changing our room the next day. The hotel was nearly empty. With no working AC, we had to leave early and pay for another hotel ourselves. Getting away was worth the cost. This was one of my worst hotel stays, and I’d avoid the place. Given how bad our experience was, I find it hard to believe the positive reviews are genuine.

Apart from the location, my seven-night stay was a bad experience. Room 114 was disgusting. Reception staff said on my first day that they would move me, but it never happened. On day five, I asked to speak to the manager because my transfer was due at 7 pm, though checkout was at 11 am. I just wanted a solution that would let me shower at least two hours before leaving. The manager avoided me for two days. When I finally spoke with them on my last day, they said there was nothing they could do. I strongly recommend avoiding Twenty Hotel.

The room window had a nice view, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The main reason to choose this basic hotel is its location, right in the old town with everything within walking distance. The room was okay for the price, but the toilet was extremely small and its exhaust fan didn’t work. The old air conditioner barely cooled the room, and outside noise at night made sleeping difficult. There’s no elevator, and the hotel is on the second and third floors, so hauling luggage upstairs may be a problem for some guests.
