Assos Kervansaray Hotel - Special Class

The location is quite good, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. The place was dirty, there was no internet upstairs, and the staff seemed genuinely uninterested in the whole mess. Very unprofessional. When we arrived, there were renovation materials in the toilet. My partner reported it and was told to use the second bathroom, so we did. The floor was so dirty from the work that my black socks turned white. I asked them to clean it as we were heading out for a walk. They apologized and said they would, but didn’t. At least they did remove the materials from the bathroom. We managed to connect to the internet downstairs at reception after asking them to fix it, but there was no coverage when we went back upstairs. Very unprofessional.

The beach was nice, but crowded, and the restaurant was really bad. Our rooms were clean, but old, with no view, and not at all what we expected from the pictures. The bathrooms were okay, though the rest of the rooms weren’t. There wasn’t a proper blanket on the bed, and the window faced the outdoor air conditioning, so it was very loud. We couldn’t open the window either. For the high price, we expected better rooms, and it would’ve been nice to know which rooms we were booking. Disappointed!

The rooms are a bit small, but full of character, and the lobby and indoor dining area are charming. The outdoor restaurant sits right over the water. I’ve stayed here several times and love it. It’s a fantastic spot in a historic place, right on the water. The food has been decent, and the service has always been fine. The pool might suit kids, but for me it’s pointless when the sea is so clear and full of fish. Grab some bread and dive in. It is on the cold side for most people, though.

The location and valet team were the only good parts of our stay. Everything else was frustrating and uncomfortable, and I wouldn’t return or recommend the hotel. In the middle of July, the air conditioning didn’t work, leaving the room unbearably hot and humid. The front desk said someone could fix it in the morning, but we were checking out then. We barely slept, not until 4 AM, and when I asked for a late checkout they said no. No solution, apology, or even a fan. The beds were hard as a rock. Breakfast was mediocre at best. Check-in was another headache. They insisted on collecting passport numbers for everyone, including the kids, to activate Wi-Fi, but it still didn’t work. At 11:30 PM I went downstairs to get online and found they’d entered the information incorrectly. Since I’d apparently only included two of the kids in the second round we booked, they insisted we pay an extra $130+ for the third one. That was ridiculous, especially as I saw other people with many people in smaller rooms, normal for Turkiye. Being Turkish-American put me at a disadvantage. At checkout I asked for my car, and the front desk said they’d notify valet. Twenty minutes later, the valet told me no one had called. If you don’t speak Turkish, communication will be a major issue. I’m Turkish-American, and it would’ve been even more of a nightmare if I weren’t.
