We arrived expecting to stay at the hotel, since we’d booked over a month earlier, and discovered it was closed with operations suspended. Nobody had warned us. When we called, the person who answered gave a brief apology but no explanation or help. There’s no taxi or public transport nearby, so we dragged our luggage more than a kilometer to another hotel. They’d already taken the full rate in advance, and now I have to chase a refund. Stay away.

We stayed at Utku Konağı for an academic conference, and the garden and parking were a real plus. It’s a beautiful three-story mansion with ten rooms, restored faithfully to its original character. The rooms are spacious, with calming wooden details, and I liked that the shower and toilet were planned as separate spaces. Breakfast was carefully put together on a plate and filling. Each morning there was freshly fried sigara böreği or fried potatoes, and that delicious fried-food smell is what you wake up to. It felt like staying at your family’s home, with someone quietly getting up early to prepare things in the kitchen. We left very happy. I hope İsmail Bey, his family, and their little boy welcome many more lovely people to the mansion. Hope to see you again.

The warm welcome from Aysun Hanım and Özge Hanım really stayed with me. On my first business trip to Bartın, I found Utku Konağı through an online boutique hotel listing and had no idea I’d leave with such lovely impressions. It’s a refined place, and the staff are kind and friendly. May God bless you with many guests.
