Afytos Bodrum Hotel - All Inclusive

The staff made our stay at Afytos Bodrum Hotel in Gumbet really enjoyable, and everyone was welcoming and friendly, even though we were the only English guests among mostly Turkish and Russian visitors. There was a great vibe, with music playing by the pool through the day, and we can't praise the place enough. We had a brilliant week from 10/07/23 to the 17/07/23, and we would happily return and recommend it. We had doubts before booking because there weren't many reviews, so I wanted to share my experience. For a 3 star hotel, it should really be 4 star. We couldn't have wanted more for the price we paid. Love from Gemma and Lincoln. Our room looked beautiful, was very clean, and had an amazing balcony view. It wasn't the most modern, but fit the hotel's style. We were at the top, which meant a lot of steps in around 40°C, but the view made it worth it. Ground floor rooms are available for people who struggle with steps, though you still have to climb to reach the restaurant, pool, and bar. We went all inclusive and liked the flavorful food, with vegetarian and meat options, salads, and desserts. I think most dishes were Turkish, though I wasn't sure. Chicken and rice were available most days, and the stuffed flat bread was really nice. The bar served local vodka, raki, and beer, plus several fruit juices, Fanta, Pepsi, and sprite throughout the day. It's about a 10 min walk to shops, bars, and restaurants, and 15-20mins to the beach. A taxi to Bodrum central costs 100tl, around £3, and there's a taxi base at the end of the road. A bus also runs every 5mins, is cheaper, and stops at the end of the road on the right hand side of the hotel. Gumbet itself has lots to do, from excursions and jet skiing to shopping, bars, and restaurants, and you're not harassed to go into places. The pool was perfect, with shallow and deeper sections, 2 children's pools, and a really good slide. Free WiFi was available in the lobby, which had comfortable sofas and seating areas.

Our room was very basic and dated, and it took 800 steps to reach it. The hotel is literally up in the hills, with a long uphill climb to get there. Food was the same each day, mostly salad with very little choice, and there were no snacks to speak of. The bar had no choices, and there were no English TV channels AT ALL. Staff spoke very little English. We ate out most of the time, so all-inclusive wasn't worth it. If you don't mind all those steps, don't bother. We were very disappointed with the whole stay.

The bar and restaurant team were friendly and really good, and the food was nice too. A very good hotel. The pool closes at 6 pm, which is a bit early, but that's alright.
