Hotel Helen Park

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and their service was excellent throughout our stay. The location is fantastic for exploring nearby attractions. But the building we stayed in let the experience down: the furniture was very old and poorly maintained, and the rooms smelled unpleasant. The hotel and elevator badly need renovation to meet modern standards. With updated facilities, it could easily be a top choice given the location and attentive staff.

We were welcomed warmly and didn’t run into any problems. The breakfasts were simple, tasty, and healthy. The rooms were small but cozy, and the location was wonderful, with a beautiful view as you walk out of the hotel. I was a little concerned about how thin the doors were and the gaps between them and the floor, but everything else was great. Thank you!

Breakfast came with the room and was served buffet style in the dining room. The food was OK. The rooms were generally clean, and it was clear the housekeepers worked hard to keep the rooms and shared areas that way. The shower drain was clogged, leaving you standing in water because it drained so slowly. We reported it, and someone came to fix it, but the problem remained. The safe was also unusable: its lock was engaged, but the safe was open. Someone tried to fix it after we asked, but couldn’t, and apologized, saying we could use the main safe at reception for valuables. Some staff spoke English well, others didn’t. They smiled and said “Yes” often, though that seemed to mean they’d heard you, not necessarily that they agreed or understood. We also learned from other guests that the hotel has an old and a new section. We stayed in the new part, and I’d insist on a room there if you book. Guests get one room key at check-in, only one. We tried to negotiate a second and were refused. The main advantage is the location, within walking distance of Çanakkale’s waterfront, shops, and restaurants.

I’ve stayed here 4 times, and this was the last. There are old and new rooms, and the new ones are OK, but not worth even 1 euro. I gave it two stars because there’s parking and the breakfast staff are OK. The reception guy wasn’t. In room 122, the bathroom door wouldn’t close and the lighting was poor. The whole place left me feeling scammed. At 35 euro a night, it wasn’t worth 1 lira.
