Roof Rooms Fethiye Apartment hotel

I booked a sea view deluxe room through a last minute package, but the room was completely different from what I'd booked. It was four floors up on a steep mountain, above a cafe, and the window looked onto a water tank and grape plants with no view at all. I spent two hours arguing about it. The manager speaks no English and said I could either stay in that room or cancel. I agreed to cancel and got to speak to him at the last minute. As soon as it was cancelled, he said “exit” and told my girl to get off the bed, gesturing at her for lying down. He rushed us out with no manners or courtesy. In ten years of visiting Turkey I've never encountered such an ill-mannered, rude manager. The air conditioning didn't work, and there was no wardrobe or mirror. The rooms are below average, and the location is just above pubs. Stay away from this so-called room unless you want to deal with an ill-mannered manager. I'll make an official complaint to last minute.

The place was roomy, bright and spotless, with high ceilings, two bedrooms, a lounge and two bathrooms. We enjoyed music until morning, though I don't agree with people who say the sound was just background noise that carried into the room. Getting there was a surprise: nobody mentioned the nearly 100 steps when we booked. The kitchen supplies were also limited, and I think room-only places should offer a wider selection. The man helping us answered our questions politely, so many thanks to him.

After just one night we decided to leave, and the owner's response made an already bad stay worse. He shouted, acted aggressively and accused us of putting hair in the bathroom to get a refund. He also said we were used to luxury and were deliberately criticizing his "hotel," adding that everyone has a different idea of cleanliness. That was disrespectful and completely unprofessional. We had booked two nights at Mai Rooms on Agoda for 8,400 TL, but the apartment looked nothing like the pictures or description. There are lots of stairs, which is a real problem with luggage, and the room felt worn and very dated. When I asked about the pictures, the owner said they had been "brightened." Agoda refused to refund us and sided with the owner despite the obvious problems, so we lost a lot of money for a one-night stay. Mai Rooms isn't a place I'd recommend, and Agoda let us down too. I think Booking.com would have dealt with this differently.

We chose this apartment because we like exploring town and aren't big fans of all-inclusive stays, and it worked really well for us. The view and cleanliness were both ten out of ten. We stayed once before heading to Rhodes and again on the return trip, since the early ferry made somewhere nearby convenient. You can wake up and reach the ferry in two minutes. The apartment seems to be right in central Fethiye, with restaurants and places for entertainment within walking distance, and the well-known beaches are a 5-10 minute drive away.
