I hardly wanted to leave the room. It was a warm, beautifully designed cave room with an amazing bed, and that bath was something else. I spent ages soaking and looking out at the view. The private terrace made it even more special: one morning I stepped out and saw snow for the first time in my life. I’m Australian, don’t judge me. Watching Cappadocia turn white from there felt surreal. The underfloor heating kept the room toasty and comfortable, whatever the weather outside. This is a family-run place, and you feel that right away. Some staff didn’t speak English, but we managed with broken English, gestures, and smiles. Seeing them at breakfast each morning added a lot to my solo birthday trip. The food was beautifully cooked, and you could feel the kindness behind it. I was travelling alone in Europe and stayed at Ebony Cave Hotel for my birthday. I’d decided to splurge a little, and it was worth every cent. The location is central and makes it easy to get around. It was one of the most special stays of my trip, and I’d come back in a heartbeat.

We booked for four people, with the hotel listing one double bed and two singles, but one of the supposed single beds was actually a sofa. The room also didn’t have a view of any balloon flights, despite what the photos showed. The receptionist was very rude. After he couldn’t persuade us to book a balloon flight through them, when the weather was bad and the Turkish aviation authority wasn’t allowing flights, he ignored us completely. On the other nights, a female receptionist and a child were there and were much friendlier.

The rooms were quite nice and the hotel was very cheap, but the male owner at the front desk was really rude. He immediately pushed his products enthusiastically, then his attitude changed as soon as you didn’t buy anything. I couldn’t tell whether he was insulting me in Turkish, but the whole thing felt really barbaric.

Staying in a cave was a new experience, and the location was what I liked most. The place is fantastic and the staff are professional. Thanks especially to Bairam and Eren, who were very cooperative and guided me during my time in Cappadocia. Ask Biram or Eren if you need help with a tourist tour, they’re very supportive. And don’t miss the homemade breakfast.

Get up early and you can watch the balloons go by. The view is amazing, and the rooms are beautiful, built into an original cave. Staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful, and the free breakfast was great. We had a wonderful stay and I highly recommend it.
