Byzantium Comfort Hotel

The rooms are very small, but the food and service were acceptable.

Best hotel. I’d always recommend it to others.

I’d avoid this hotel. I booked through Booking.com for May 7-13 at €607, and everything seemed fine until they started messaging me on Booking.com on April 29 to update my card details. I figured that was normal since I’d booked weeks earlier and they wanted to check the card was still valid, so I updated it. The next day they sent the same message, saying the card was invalid, and asked me to try again. I did, but got the same result. It was an American Express card, so I thought maybe they didn’t accept Amex. I switched to Visa, but that was also marked invalid. I tried a second Visa from another bank, with the same outcome. I contacted Booking.com, who said the issue wasn’t on their end and immediately reached out to the hotel. The hotel told them the person handling reservations wasn’t there. The Booking.com representative said she’d email the hotel and keep me updated. Then, on the morning of May 1, I got a message saying my reservation had been canceled. Outrageous. When I checked again, rooms were over €3,000 for six nights. I’d booked for €607, apparently that wasn’t good enough for them. They canceled me under the excuse that all three of my cards were invalid, even though payment was scheduled for the day I arrived. Their conduct was unprofessional, and I’ll keep leaving negative reviews.

The mattress really needs replacing. It sags and is extremely soft, so the bedding was only so-so for us. Breakfast was good, but there wasn’t much variety over several days. The location is great, cleanliness excellent, and service from both breakfast and reception was top-notch. Thank you.
