The location could hardly make up for my first impressions of Room 101 at the Eastanbul Hotel Suites, Istanbul. George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four briefly came to mind as I checked in. In that novel, Room 101 in the Ministry of Love is where prisoners are tortured with their worst fears until they break. I wondered if I should have signed in as Winston Smith. This room didn’t have rats, but it did have its own oddities: the TV switched on when you entered, and the remote didn’t work, so you couldn’t turn it off. The fridge door was detached, the air conditioning didn’t work, and the safe was locked and couldn’t be opened. Let’s just say attention to detail isn’t their strong suit. At that point, I’d have written a pretty unflattering review. Over the next two or three days, my initially poor opinion of the Eastanbul softened. The room was clean and quiet, and the bathroom was fine, though the shower was very small. It worked for me because I’m small too, but a large American would have real trouble.

The service and breakfast were incredible, and I had a perfect stay. It’s a wonderful hotel, just a two-minute walk from the two mosques in the Sultanahmet district.

Getting around Istanbul was easy from here, and the neighborhood felt clean and safe. Our room was a little dated, and breakfast could use more variety, but they gave us their best room with a balcony, which was really kind. There were free bottles of water in the room every day, too. The reception guys were outstanding, always friendly and helpful. They even made calls for us and shared useful advice and recommendations for the rest of our travels. Thanks for a lovely stay. I’d definitely recommend it.

The terrace view was incredible, and breakfast had lots of tasty choices. The location was great, just a few minutes on foot from two major mosques and plenty of other sights, with the nearest tram stop about a five-minute walk away. My room had a closet and a safe, and was comfortable and tidy. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of toiletries. The staff were friendly and always ready to help, and made me feel like family. I’d happily stay here again.

The location was so convenient, just a short walk to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, the Bazaar, and the tram station. Breakfast was great, and my room was clean, spacious, and nice. I loved Eastanbul Suites. I’m sorry I didn’t get the receptionist’s name, but he was super friendly and helpful. He arranged all sorts of things for me, including a tour and a taxi, and it all went smoothly. I enjoyed my stay, would come back to Istanbul, and recommend it. Worth every penny.
