Elephant in The Room

I’ve been to over 20 countries and never had a hotel stay this bad. At 3 am, staff opened my room with their own key. They were rude, didn’t apologize for the mistake, and I slept badly the rest of the night. Then they knocked an hour early in the morning to ask us to check out. The room smelled awful because the sewage was blocked, and the smell filled the whole place. There’s no elevator, so you have to carry your bags upstairs. The facilities are poor, the staff were poor, and the soundproofing is bad, with lots of noise at night. There’s no real upside here. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

I booked three nights, but checked out after just one. After checking in on 15.04., I found a room with no window and a smelly bathroom. The bedding and towels were grey, and there was corrosion inside the kettle along with a maggot. I could smell cigarette smoke all night, and wind came in through the room door. I slept fully dressed because the bedding was so dirty. When I left, the receptionist didn’t offer to help with my luggage, even though there are stairs, or ask why I was leaving early or how my stay had been.

The room itself was comfortable and had good facilities, but we had a really uncomfortable stay and didn’t get much sympathy from the staff. Check whether the bar downstairs has a DJ, because if it does, earplugs won’t get you through the night. Cigarette smoke also comes into the room through the ventilation.

The location is excellent and the price is reasonable. The floors in the rooms generally aren’t very clean, though the beds and toilet are decent.
