Genoa Port Hotel

The staff were friendly and helpful, but I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially at the price. Our room wasn’t clean, and the shower and sink were both broken. We were on the third floor with no elevator, and the stairs were oddly built. There are better places you can find for the money.

The owner even drove us to the airport and made sure we arrived right on time. When we couldn’t get our flight tickets in time, the owner and staff helped us add two nights to our stay, which relieved a lot of stress. They were kind from the beginning and made us feel at home. The room was clean, cozy, and peaceful. The location is great, a short walk from Galata Tower and around six minutes from the sea, where we enjoyed beautiful sunrises. The area felt safe and calm, and we often had dinner nearby. There are several tram stops close by, and we liked riding them to see the city. Everything felt perfect. Thank you, Mates Port Hotel!

There was a lot of cigarette smoke throughout the hotel. It was suffocating and made it hard to sleep. Lung cancer is a major cancer issue in Türkiye and is commonly among the leading causes of cancer deaths. The Global Cancer Observatory’s Türkiye factsheet shows a substantial cancer burden nationally, with lung cancer among the main contributors. Incidence is especially high among men, in line with much higher smoking rates. Smoking is also prevalent compared with many countries. OECD reports daily smoking at around 28% in Türkiye, above the OECD average.

The room was quite cramped, with the bed taking up most of it. I could manage, but for the price I expected a little more space or comfort. It was on the third floor, and without an elevator, all those stairs got tiring after a long day. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful, and the location is perfect. I’d give it five stars if the price better matched the room size and facilities.
