Hotel Selenay

My son had a lovely time with the friendly, smiling staff, and I found everyone at reception welcoming and polite. We even changed rooms twice, and they handled it kindly with no fuss. I’d been nervous about booking after reading older complaints about insects and poor service, but I didn’t see any insects during our stay and the room was cleaned properly every day. Breakfast was satisfying, too, with a lovely view that made mornings relaxing. I’m glad we came, since those older reviews don’t seem to reflect the service now.

There was no hot water, drinking water, tea, or coffee. When I asked reception for help, they didn’t seem to care. I’d avoid booking here. After you arrive, you’re left to deal with it yourself.

After we pushed to speak with the manager, we were moved to other rooms, though they were only a little better. I was badly bitten by bed bugs, and our kids refused to stay in the room. We’d arrived to find ourselves waiting for hours in the lobby because the rooms weren’t ready. The lobby was filthy and crowded with cargo, with cats wandering around. It was close to midnight by the time we were shown the rooms. The sheets were stained and crawling with bugs. We looked for another nearby hotel, but everywhere was full. The service was poor, the place wasn’t clean, and breakfast fell below standard. I’d rate the stay 0/10 and strongly advise avoiding this hotel.

The location is a 10/10 for being right among the shops, and for the price, what I experienced felt fair. I’d suggest it for someone traveling alone or on a boys’ trip. If you’re after something more luxurious, you can pay more for another hotel. I arrived at night and the room I’d paid for wasn’t available, so they put me on the lower floor in a room I didn’t like. I asked for pillows and blankets and was told they’d come in a few minutes, but they never did. No one at the hotel speaks English. There was no hot water until the second day. Later, I was moved to a room with three beds, even though I’d paid for four. I waited until night for them to bring another bed. The room was generally clean, though there were some insects under the bed.
