It used to be a wonderful hostel, which makes this a real shame. It was called Gafa Garden Hostel before it somehow split off, and now the name is Nevada Garden Otel. It seems they’re having business problems. Since this week, there’s been no water. The manager and workers all left, even though they knew this was coming and didn’t warn tourists. There’s only one Arabic worker there now to help, but he’s still letting tourists check in. Without water, you can’t shower or use the toilet, and nobody is cleaning. There’s no breakfast either. Avoid staying until they fix the problem.

Nevada Hotel is in a great spot in Istanbul’s Taksim area, just a short walk from Taksim Square and close to public transportation. It made a convenient base for exploring the city, and my recent stay was very positive.

I booked eight days through Agoda and paid, but after that I never got a reply confirming the payment or booking. I had the host iker’s WhatsApp number and had been trying to reach him for four days before my flight. When I arrived from one country to another, I got a nasty surprise: the host was missing and unresponsive. We waited two hours at reception, with no AC and no hospitality. I felt he’d given the room to someone else later at a better price. I was lucky to find another hotel eventually, but it was a pathetic experience. Choose carefully, and if you book, make sure the host keeps replying through the last day. Don’t get caught like I did by an opportunist host.
