Newaz Hotel

We were sent here by Comfort Stay Taksim hotel after they said they were full. We never would have chosen this awful place ourselves. The staff were incredibly rude, and road noise at night was so bad we couldn't sleep during our stay. The breakfast was just a boiled egg, olives, and stale bread. There were broken handles, a bad shower, old mattresses, and dirty walls. Absolutely terrible.

We booked New Prince, but ended up being put here. The bed and bathroom are clean, the Wi-Fi is very good, and there’s a water kettle, which is nice. The room also has cups, but no washing liquid or anyone to clean them. There’s a cupboard with cleaning stuff, a mop, vacuum, and broom for guests who want to tidy the place themselves. We’ve been here five nights and haven’t had any cleaning or bed-making. The mattresses on the four beds were so worn that we switched them around, since my back couldn’t handle them. Handles are broken, the mirrors have streaks, the walls are marked, there’s a footprint on the ceiling, and the toilet button has been patched with tape. Don’t look too closely at the ceiling either, it has huge dust bunnies. The room is very loud, so you need earplugs. A couple came in at 5 and shouted for fifteen minutes. We stayed because we don’t speak much Turkish, the owner doesn’t speak English well, and the bed, toilet, and shower are clean. The room’s colours don’t go together, and there’s a painting of Sleeping Beauty. It feels like a student room.

The owner let himself into our room and moved our things after we’d asked him not to enter. He also kicked my cousin out without telling us and only gave us part of the payment back at 11 p.m. Nobody spoke English, and the owner was quick-tempered and unwilling to listen. It’s basically a hostel, though the rooms have several beds. One bed didn’t even have a frame that fit the mattress. I’d give this place zero stars if I could. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, even someone who’s homeless.

The price is reasonable for this area, but the hotel itself is average and offers almost no service. The people there are kind, though they only speak Turkish, not foreign languages. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and affordable supermarkets nearby. You can pick up water and other essentials at the 101 supermarkets. Having Turkish tea by the roadside is an experience worth trying.
