Ozyurt Hotel

The location is what made me choose İstanbul Ozyurt Hotel Kumkapi for my stay from 16th to 25th August, and it really is convenient. The Marmara Sea beach, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Yenikapı Metro Station, Kumkapı Rail Station, and Istanbul University Tram Station are all close by. Sultanahmet’s street food area is nearby too, with tasty food and live music. The budget price was another reason I booked. The service, though, made the nine nights uncomfortable. Manager Salim, who is from Lebanon, came across as unfriendly and unprofessional. There was no room service: the room wasn’t cleaned, the towels and sheets weren’t changed, and we ended up cleaning and taking out the waste ourselves. We asked several times for basics like soap, shampoo, and water, but got none. We couldn’t switch hotels because our schedule was tight. I’d only stay here if location is your sole priority and you’re prepared to do without hotel services.

The staff were very rude. The manager started arguing with me, called his friends, and wouldn’t let me go to my room, so I called the police. I have the whole thing on video. Worst hotel I’ve stayed in.

We left because the receptionist wouldn’t let us take photos of the rooms and threatened to call the police. The place looked nothing like the pictures, and it was dirty and ugly. Sleeping there felt like being in jail, or worse.

We paid almost 60€ for four nights, which felt like a lot for this poor stay. The room looked onto a highway, not the sea, and hadn’t been cleaned after the last guest. There wasn’t a shower, as the photo shows, and there was barely anything in the room besides a bed and half a wardrobe. The toilet pipes ran right over our heads. The receptionist spoke loudly with his friends, so I couldn’t sleep. They speak only a little English. The reviews on Booking show something different, which seems suspicious, and the lack of replies to reviews also gives the impression that nobody cares. Don’t ruin your vacation here.
