The Gate Kadikoy Downtown

Our room was cleaned daily and felt fairly fresh, and the location suited us because we already knew the area. Beyond those points, the week was a letdown. We asked for a crib for our small child and a shoehorn, and staff agreed but never followed through. We ended up pushing the three single beds together ourselves after our request to join them was ignored. The walls seemed paper thin; we could hear phone conversations, coughing, and even burping from next door. Worse, a neighbor smoked constantly, and the smell came into our room until it was unbearable at night. Our child and we struggled to sleep. Service was lacking, and those basic requests seemed not to matter to anyone. I wouldn't recommend this place, particularly for a first visit to Istanbul or a family with a child. Clean rooms and a convenient area didn't make up for the noise and discomfort.

Omer was always so kind and ready to help, and I want to thank him in particular. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the rooms stayed neat and clean with daily housekeeping. I had a great time and would happily come back :)

We left less than two hours after checking in. The reception and manager were extremely rude and no help at all. The lobby reeked of cat urine and feces, with a fishy smell, and the dark corridor to the rooms smelled awful too, like something had died in one of them. The TV had no picture because the signal was bad, and the shower door was broken. A terrible stay from the start.

Our mornings next door to The Gate Hotel were such a joy. Elif Kemal served us, bringing fresh cheeses to the table along with hot tea, and the food was a whole spread of gourmet treats. tOnY & nadYa from Kazan Russia, we love your restaurant!
