Tolga Hotel

The wifi was okay when it worked, but that seemed to be only about half the time. It’s a budget hotel, but that doesn’t excuse how poorly maintained it was. Both rooms had dirty curtains and there was damage all over one headboard where something had been pulled off. The ceiling fan was coated in thick grease and dust. We booked two rooms on booking.com, both listed with double beds, but one had twin singles. They both claimed to have balconies, but neither did. Toiletries were listed too, yet one room had none and the hand soap and shower gel dispensers were empty. The rooms were disgustingly dirty, and the staff were reluctant to help. The bathroom had black mould and clearly hadn’t had a proper clean. Both hairdryers were ancient and broken. When we asked for replacements, staff said no. After four requests over three days, one person finally helped. One shower bracket was broken, so you had to hold the shower head. One room had no AC or TV remote. They replaced it in the morning after we asked, but since we arrived late, one of us spent the first night without air conditioning. There were safety concerns too. Both rooms had dangerous wiring. In one, the socket was coming out of the wall, and the air-conditioning cable in that room had been cut and taped together in two places, a huge fire risk. Each room had just one socket, with everything, including the AC, running through a three-way adapter. If using a travel adapter, you had to choose between charging your phone and running the air conditioning. The general state of the fixtures was poor. I’ve included pictures, and there’s much more than I could show. I saw some negative reviews where the owner replied by calling people liars, so I’m eagerly waiting for that response. The photos are there for you to make up your own minds. I recommend staying well away.

The beds were clean and the staff were really nice. Rooms were mini, but decent, and the prices were good. The restroom could have been cleaner and more satisfactory, they didn’t refill the shampoo. There was no elevator, so we had to carry our heavy suitcases up all five floors. Overall, it was a cute hotel.

The location made sightseeing easy, and it was handy for shopping and catching the airport bus. I only stayed one night, but the small, tidy hotel had everything I needed and the staff were wonderful. The price felt more than fair for the area.

I arrived with a confirmed booking, but the owner told me the hotel was full and my reservation had been cancelled. I wasn't allowed to check in, and nobody gave me a clear explanation. I was left with nowhere to stay.
