The floors were coming apart, the toilet handle was broken, and the wiring looked like a serious fire risk, with visible burn marks. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned before I got the room, and I suspect the sheets hadn’t been changed either. There was nowhere to hang the shower head while showering. A homemade-looking light fixture dripped some kind of glue onto the bedding and my clothes, and the hotel refused to refund me for the hot adhesive that got all over my things. Service was terrible too. This was one of the worst places I’ve stayed, and I’ve literally slept on a thin mattress on the floor without lights in Thailand.

After two days, they raised the price we’d agreed on for the same room and told us to leave if we didn’t like it. They never changed the sheets either. They just tidied up, so we were left assuming the sheets were clean. Worst experience ever.

They didn’t provide any towels, and even though we asked every day, they never changed the sheets. Some of our food and other things went missing from the fridge. When we asked what happened, they said they had no idea who took it and didn’t pay us back. It felt very unsafe. We wasted our money and time, and our holiday was ruined.

It was so noisy I couldn’t spend a night there. I wouldn’t recommend it to women traveling alone.

We had a booking, but no room was given to us. We ended up walking around Istanbul to find somewhere to stay.
