Talles City Hotel

I reserved through Booking.com at this location two weeks before my stay, but they moved me to another property in a nearby building. Then they charged me twice for staying there, calling the extra amount a “deposit” that was never refunded. I had to get my bank involved to dispute it, and the bank got the money back. Very shady. Save yourself the headache and stay at ibis right down the street.

The location is good, and the rooms are comfortable and clean, but I wouldn’t stay again. The walls are unbelievably thin. We could hear everything from the neighboring rooms, from luggage zippers and late-night trips to the toilet to full conversations and even farting. One guest next to us smoked in their room all night and all morning, and the strong cigarette smell came into ours. As a non-smoker, I found that really annoying. The noise and smoke made me very unhappy with the stay.

The rooms looked new and pretty, and that was about the only good part. We were there as a family, me, my wife, and our two kids, but left as soon as we could the next morning. We booked two rooms and were told by all four receptionists we spoke with beforehand that they’d be next to each other so the kids could sleep in the other room. At check-in we were told they were on different floors. The receptionists seemed unprofessional and looked at us strangely, as if they hadn’t expected a family. They also lied about the hotel, and the service was poor. The location felt really unsafe to us. There’s a road full of pubs and clubs with loud music around the clock, and police cars wait outside to reduce the danger caused by drunk people. My wife and daughter felt very uncomfortable. The hotel was under construction too. While we were sleeping, work was going on outside our room, and plastic covered the floors because the walls had been freshly painted. The rooms also seemed illegally built: there was an emergency fire exit door, and when we opened it, there was a room inside. People were coming and going 24/7, and it seemed like the hotel was used by people having one-night stands, so it definitely didn’t feel family friendly. There’s no parking for guests travelling by car. There is a car park you have to pay for each night, but it felt unsafe and I wouldn’t trust it. The negatives far outweighed the good-looking new rooms.

I liked the hotel in other ways, especially the great location and beautiful room, but I wouldn’t return. I stayed five nights and couldn’t sleep properly on three of them because of loud music from nearby places. On Friday and Saturday, it never stopped, and the room wasn’t soundproof enough. Even with earplugs I couldn’t rest. I know the noise isn’t the hotel’s fault, but I was really sorry it affected the stay so much.
