Right in the center of Iznik, this is a small, cozy family hotel in Bursa province, western Turkey. The owners were friendly, polite, and professional. Downstairs there’s an ice cream parlour and patisserie with lovely cakes, and I was given an excellent ice cream when I arrived. My room was spotless, with two very comfortable single beds. There was no air conditioning, but they kindly provided a large fan, which was enough for me since I’d be out all day. The room faced the Main Street, though it really wasn’t very noisy. The bathroom was spotless too, with a European style toilet and a nice large shower. It’s a great place to relax, with easy access to the magnificent Lake Iznik waterfront and the historic town.

For the price, it’s a good stay. I can’t compare it with the other hotels, but the beds feel a bit loose. The staff are generally nice and attentive. I’d also suggest trying the Höşmerim ice cream plaster.

The room had a bed and hot water, and that was about it. There was no breakfast, kettle, or air conditioning, and the service was far below zero. They quoted 350 TL for the room, and the staff weren’t friendly at all. İznik is incredibly noisy. Cars and motorcycles swarm the beach and market, and unless those areas are closed to traffic, nobody will be happy. I got so fed up with the noise that I practically ran out of İznik, relieved to be leaving. I’ll never go back.

The cleanliness is terrible, there’s barely any service, and friendliness is nowhere to be found. Unless you really have to, stay away. If you’re willing to pay for a place with none of those basics, that’s your choice.
