Gravel Select Hotel

The entertainment was all in Russian, including the shows and games by the pool, and the animators didn't speak English. I understand the hotel caters to many Russian guests, but that felt unfair to everyone else. Reception was the one place where we could count on communicating in English. Food was the biggest problem. Lunch and dinner repeated the same dishes each day, with no pizza or fries. Pasta had no flavor, and the meat was either dry, too salty, or unseasoned. The poolside options were a little better, but just as repetitive. At the bar, despite the listing saying one bar stayed open 24/7, there was often no alcohol left by 11 PM except anise, so a whiskey and coke then could be a disappointment. Rooms in the garden section also smelled unpleasant every day. There were good points too: the pools were lovely, the views beautiful, cleanliness was fine, and the staff were genuinely friendly. We enjoyed the warmth and beauty of the place, but the hotel itself needs work. With those problems fixed, it could be somewhere we'd return to and recommend.

The music and entertainment team brought a lot of energy, and I really liked that. The rooms were acceptable, but ours wasn't in the main building, which was inconvenient. Communication was difficult because only a few staff spoke English, and my shower towels weren't replaced, so I had none for the night. Most staff seemed tired and unmotivated. They were polite, but service still felt weak. Meals were repetitive, overcooked, and short on variety. The pool areas were cleaned regularly, yet the floors were so slippery they felt unsafe. Bar service disappointed too, with poor alcohol and limited cocktail skills, apart from one bartender who was genuinely good. The stay wasn't awful, but the experience felt more like 3-4 stars than the 5-star level the hotel claims. I wouldn't come back because it didn't meet the standard I expected for a vacation.

The hotel sits right by the sea, close to the city center, with greenery and pools all around. There was lots to do, from parties and yoga to different games. The reception team handled requests quickly, our room was spotless, and the food was tasty with plenty to choose from. Staff were friendly, organized, and always around when we needed something. A wonderful stay, and five stars hardly feels like enough! 😍

We'd stayed before and had enjoyed it, so this year we returned with our family of five. From day one, though, the behavior of a large group of tourists from certain northern countries cast a shadow over the holiday. People cut in line, shoved adults and children, ignored basic hygiene and manners, and even moved our belongings and took our table while we stepped away for five minutes to get soup. It's disappointing that the hotel, and the region generally, seem focused only on bringing in foreign currency without thinking about the kind of guests they attract. If Turkish tourism keeps relying on this sort of clientele, it will suffer in the long run. At a five-star hotel I expect people to show basic respect, not the feel of a chaotic marketplace. That was the last straw for us. We won't return to the hotel or this region.
