Roma Beach Resort & Spa

A really good hotel stay, with great attention to detail and lots of tasty food.

We had a lovely 10 days at the Roma Beach resort. The staff were friendly and keen to speak more English and practise, even though the hotel and resort mainly cater to German and Dutch guests. The rooms and shared areas were clean and pleasant. The beach bar was fantastic, with an excellent lunch. One small gripe: the pool bar’s disposable plastic beer cups were awful to drink from and could be better. There was plenty of food and a good range, though after a few days I was seeing many of the same dishes. The chips and potato croquettes were always cold unless you got them in the first two minutes of dinner. Most evenings had entertainment, but it was just okay and usually ended early. The Wednesday afternoon foam party in the pool was lots of fun. I’d have liked the beach bar to be livelier on more evenings. We saw the Salsa Dancing show there, and that was the best atmosphere of the week. For an outing, we went to Green Canyon lake, which was beautiful and made for a lovely day. A few other British guests mentioned that someone in nearly every group had a 24-hour bug or some food-related illness. After a couple of ladies were admitted to hospital, we noticed an extra flurry of cleaning and more food choices. We felt the hotel was clean and well looked after, and this could happen anywhere. All in all, friendly staff and a clean, relaxing setting made for a lovely holiday. Thanks to everyone.

We loved the resort and enjoyed almost every minute, but a couple of things felt odd. The chicken tasted good, yet after the first night I noticed it was sometimes brown, pink, or red. That seems disappointing for a “5” star place. It’s an adults-only resort, but at 10 or 11 pm people were told to be quiet even while the bars were still open. Guests were just laughing and having fun with people they’d met. The manager and a couple of barmen shushed them, and someone was threatened with the police. It’s a lovely resort, but that part just seemed strange to me.

Be careful about booking this hotel through TUI. They overbooked and moved us from two double rooms into one family room with only one toilet, then offered free WiFi as if that made up for it. TUI’s next offer was a free show. It felt cheap and unprofessional. The hotel wasn’t helpful either, and extended the downgrade from three nights to four out of our seven. I can’t recommend it.
