Karat Hotel

The worst part was that a woman came into our room early in the morning while three of us were staying there. Staff said she was a cleaner who had mixed up the rooms after we moved, but that was completely unacceptable. We could also hear someone snoring in the next room because the soundproofing was so poor. We first arrived to find the hotel under a completely different name from the one listed here. Inside, the room was filthy: hair and lint on the sheets, an unclean toilet, and used, stained towels in the closet. They moved us to another room, but its sheets were torn and stained too. Everything about the stay was awful.

The bed was really comfortable, the room was spacious, and I felt fine leaving my wife there in the evening because the location and security were good. Those are the reasons I gave it two stars, though I wouldn't choose it again. The service was poor. There was hair on the towels and no hot water in the bathroom. The bed had one single duvet; when I asked for another at night, they brought one from the next room. It didn't smell of fabric softener, so I doubt it had been cleaned. Breakfast was just a very small plate of olives, cheese, and eggs, with stale tea.

The breakfast wasn't any better. Cats are kept inside, and one had tasted the food before we arrived. A kitchen staff member complained that he would throw the cat out, but they didn't replace the food. Don't be misled by the reviews, this isn't somewhere I'd recommend. Even one star feels too generous. There was no heating or hot water, and hygiene was poor. The rooms had no towels or slippers, the shower head was broken, and the toilet smelled. Maybe the other reviewers stayed somewhere else.

For the price, this is a great deal, especially in a big city like Mersin. I've read other reviews, and I stay here regularly. Breakfast, hot water, and comfort have all been excellent. The price-to-quality value is hard to beat, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone.
