Minia Cave Hotel Ortahisar

The room smelled a bit, and the bathroom was very large but dimly lit. The hotel has a great view, though. After my hot air balloon flight in the morning, I could still see a few balloons from the lobby terrace, but they were already quite distant.

I was very disappointed with the restaurant. Breakfast was the same each day, and the dinner set menu gave no choice: one salad, one appetizer, and one main, with small portions. We ended up eating outside the hotel every evening. The reception staff, though, were helpful and very polite, and the hotel itself was amazing. I recommend it for the hotel, but not the restaurant.

The grounds are pretty, the staff were accommodating with our requests, and the service was exceptional. We were upgraded from a standard cave room to a suite, and breakfast was decent. Just be aware that local attractions booked through the hotel may cost a lot more, something that seems common in Turkey. It's about 10 mins from Goreme, which can be tricky if you can't find a taxi. Tours include shuttle service, though, and there are great restaurants nearby. A hidden gem in Cappadocia.

The hotel itself is a lovely cave property, with comfortable, spacious rooms that are bright for this kind of place. The internet worked well, rooms were tidied daily, and the buffet breakfast had some variety. But towels weren't changed, only folded, which left us unsure whose towel was whose and felt unhygienic. Breakfast had no water, just tap water, and the coffee was awful, even the extra coffee was from a vending machine rather than espresso. Dinner was a single fixed menu with no alternatives, which leaves people with allergies or vegetarians with no choice. There should be at least two menus. Restaurant staff were extremely rude and unkind, and spoke only Turkish, making communication impossible. One girl was very kind, as was the man who carried our bags and helped wherever he could. Service and food need a lot of work. The pleasant atmosphere was spoiled at check-in, when we waited over two hours for our room and received no apology. Only two or three staff members spoke some English, which made communication difficult.
