Tatli Kaya Otel

The reception staff were very friendly, and our room was a decent size with comfortable beds. The hotel is close to 11th clave Houses and churches, which are worth exploring.

A note before the rest: management changed about a month ago, so keep that in mind when reading older reviews. This is a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location, run by an amazing family. I even extended my stay. Six stars out of five. The family made the biggest impression. The manager, his wife, their children, and the rest of the family were incredibly hospitable and sweet. They clearly care about guests and are always ready to help with a smile. They offered me water when I arrived, food when I came back tired from hiking, and a ride to the bus station when I left. Tatlı Kaya means “Sweet Rock” in Turkish, but I think “Tatlı Aile” (“Sweet Family”) or “En Tatlı Aile” (“The Sweetest Family”) would suit them too. Ortahisar has a local feel and is away from the main tourist tours. The center is a 5-10 minute walk, with shops, restaurants, ATMs, and other services nearby. Shared taxis and minibuses run from Nevşehir or Ürgüp, so I could get there without a car. You can also hike from Ortahisar to Ibrahimpaşa, Göreme, and the Red and Rose Valley, making it a great base for walks. It’s a family-run place with five rooms, a terrace, and a lovely garden where pumpkins grow and chickens roam. I loved sitting under the big tree for breakfast, tea, or a chat with the owners and other guests. My room was spacious, spotless, cool all day thanks to the thick stone walls, and had a comfortable bed. Breakfast was superb, with fresh vegetables and fruit, cheese, olives, homemade grape molasses, and more. The wife cooked something different each morning, like börek, gözleme, or potato fries.

The terrace is peaceful and quiet, with a stunning view and a lovely sunrise. The owners and staff were so hospitable, and we loved the breakfast, especially the five kinds of cheese. Parking was easy, and tour companies pick guests up here for both the green and red tours. We had a really relaxing time.

The staff were so attentive and kind. Our spacious room had a jacuzzi and heaters, and was impeccably clean. Breakfast was wonderful. Highly recommended.
