The hotel’s location and historic setting may look appealing, but my experience was unacceptable. I’ve stayed in many hotels in different countries and have never seen service standards this poor. The rooms were dirty, dusty, poorly kept, and unhygienic. Hot water was also a serious problem: after one person showered, there was none left for the next. Those are basic things a hotel should provide. What bothered me most was the way guests were treated. Hotel guests got a careless, low-quality breakfast, while outside visitors seemed to get a fuller and more attentive service. When we asked about it, we were brushed off with “the concept.” That felt disrespectful to paying guests. I asked Mr. Mahmut for warm cheese bread and was told it was only for outside guests. I said I’d pay, but the request was ignored, with no follow-up or explanation. Management’s behavior made things worse. Ms. Büşra was rude and inappropriate. While I was talking directly to a waiter, she spoke over me and told the waiter, “Mahmut is responsible, direct them to him,” shutting down the conversation instead of addressing me. Later, while we were the only guests in the restaurant, the music was turned up so loud it felt like we were being told to leave. New guests arrived shortly afterward and complained right away, and only then was the volume lowered. It felt targeted and unacceptable. When we raised our concerns, staff were sent on Ms. Büşra’s behalf to apologize and ask us not to post a review because it might affect their jobs. That was deeply unprofessional. Employees shouldn’t be put in the position of covering for management. Mr. Mahmut only became very attentive after we said we would file a complaint, which didn’t feel genuine and only underlined the lack of professionalism. To be fair, the waiters and other staff were polite and respectful, and did their best. We initially put up with a lot because of them. The management was clearly the problem. At this price, cleanliness, service, and basic respect for guests should be a given. This stay fell far below an acceptable standard.

I’ve eaten at HANEHAN restaurant twice, and the food is excellent. They use extraordinary ingredients, all organic and local, and serve real local dishes rather than kebab or pide. You can taste the care and enthusiasm in it. The wood-fired oven gives every dish a wonderful flavor. Do yourself a favor and try it.

The staff were friendly, polite, and always willing to help, and even the breakfast and decor felt thoughtfully handled. I found the room clean and cozy, with an authentic style alongside the modern comforts I needed. The historic building has lovely stonework and a peaceful courtyard, with an atmosphere that makes it feel like stepping into another time. Staying here was one of my most special experiences. If you want to feel Şanlıurfa’s spirit while having both comfort and history, this is a great fit. I’ll definitely come back.

The courtyard was stunning, and having their fresh, delicious breakfast there was a treat. The building’s history and authentic feel, along with the staff’s kindness and generosity, made this my favorite hotel in southeastern Turkey. The staff were always smiling and happy to answer our many questions. They helped in all sorts of ways: taking our clothes to the laundrette, bringing plates and tea one evening when we returned with baklava, sharing local recommendations, and helping us get our car in and out of the car park. We were also lucky to arrive on a night with live music and food. It was an amazing experience I won’t forget. I’d suggest Hanehan to friends visiting the area, and I hope to return myself.

The hotel sits among beautiful narrow lanes that aren’t suitable for cars, and you can’t drive right up to it. There’s a small parking lot behind the hotel, so call ahead to find out where to park. It’s best to have someone from the hotel park the car for you. Inside, there’s a lovely central patio with a fountain in a very old building that feels like a fairy tale. The staff do everything they can to make you comfortable and at home. I love animals, so I was happy they have a cat and a puppy, and that you can bring your own dog. We visited in winter; the room’s AC kept us comfortable for sleeping, though the shower and bathroom could feel cold. Breakfast was good and generous. If you’re not used to Turkish kahvaltı, it may seem like a lot, but that’s how it’s served in Turkey.
