Shianghu Boutique Hotel

I liked the variety at breakfast, especially the local-style noodles. The room felt a little narrow, and the bathroom floor stayed quite wet. Service was decent, although some staff spoke limited English, which wasn't really a problem. It's a peaceful spot, though a bit far from Chiayi Station. It's still not too far out and convenient for getting to Alishan.

The staff were outstanding, and breakfast tasted great. My room did smell of cigarette smoke, though, and a mosquito disturbed my sleep. Parking was at a nearby facility. If you want the room cleaned or fresh towels, you have to ask directly, which was fine.

The Wi-Fi was weak and kept cutting out. The room layout is poorly thought out, with water splashing all over the washroom. When we asked to switch rooms, the receptionist said no, while acknowledging that the design had this flaw. The hotel is very old, felt dirty, and had an unpleasant atmosphere.

Breakfast was okay, but the cleanliness needs work. It may just be an old hotel, though the carpet wasn't very clean. The bathroom wasn't working properly at all: the tile gaps were terrible, water collected in the corners, and drainage was a problem. At night I called the front desk because the pillowcases were yellow and the pillows too high. They told me to come downstairs and change them myself, even though I was staying on the 12th floor.
