Goshen Hotel

My stay had good points and frustrating ones. The cleaning staff were very accommodating, and some front desk employees were helpful, though one wouldn't give me the time of day or help at all. The hotel website said the front desk spoke English, but the person there when I checked in did not. Since I'd never been to Taiwan, that made the arrival harder. Breakfast had very little choice for the first few days, then improved as my stay went on. My room also didn't have the big-screen TV advertised for every room, while other rooms had modern flat screens.

The hotel is conveniently near the train station, night market, and hospital, and it costs less than other hotels with free breakfast included. The room was okay, but we found bedbugs in the bed twice. I hope they clean it properly so guests can stay comfortably. Some front desk staff were very rude and unfriendly, especially when guests couldn't understand Chinese.

The room I had was well equipped, with plenty of toiletries, towels and napkins, plus a big TV. It also seemed to have its own WiFi router, and the connection was quite fast. The hotel is near Kaohsiung Main Station, with Liuhe Night Market and several places to eat not too far away. From what I read before booking, and from my own stay, the hotel seems somewhat geared toward adults. If you're traveling with kids or are a bit of a prude, you may want to avoid it. It's quite cheap, so keep expectations in check. Your experience may depend on which room you get, so luck plays a part. I can only speak for the room I stayed in.

Nostalgia makes me want to give it a five. I stayed here more than ten years ago while exploring Taiwan, and for the price, it really is a five.
