Freshfields Hotel

I saw some complaints about the location and lack of nearby places, but the hotel isn't hiding where it is. Take a look around before booking to see if it suits you. The property itself is fantastic, clean, spacious, and well kept, and the hot springs are very nice. For about $25 USD per person, there's an excellent premium buffet with loads of choices. The bed was the softest and most comfortable one I've had on this Taiwan trip, if you like a softer mattress.

Getting around is inconvenient if you don't drive. The free shuttle runs at limited times, and otherwise a taxi is the only option, costing at least NT250 each way. The nearest public bus stop is more than 1 km away. It's worth it if you're planning to spend more time at the hotel and use the hot spring. My corner room was large and spacious, had a hot spring tub, and a nice mountain view. I only wish the phone charging point were closer to the bed. The nearest one was at the desk, too far away, and no extension cable was provided.

The baths were good, though getting to the spa from town is a long trek.

My family spent two nights here. The views were nice, and the rooms were clean and well organized. The staff were professional, kind, and friendly, and helped with whatever they could. I especially liked having mineral hot spring water in the special tub in our room. The saunas and steam rooms in the hot spring area were nice too. The restaurants and breakfast buffet weren't great. The hotel claims to be five-star, but I'd call it a solid four. The location is inconvenient if you need a taxi to go out: a round trip to the city for sightseeing takes time and costs around 600 TWD. There's nothing by the hotel, not even a 7/11.
