Waugh Den Hotel

The location is excellent, the service was above average, and the parking lot is right across the street. It’s a nice budget option, especially in the off season when the price is more than affordable. I took two stars off because the bathtub was broken and Wi-Fi reception in my room was extremely poor. Fix those two issues and I’d give it five stars.

I’ve been staying here for years. The rooms are decent, and the beds aren’t bad. It’s not especially nice, but you get what you pay for and it’s good value. Since the pandemic started, they’ve kept the restaurant closed even when they were allowed to open it, and the local breakfasts they give you are the cheapest kind. More recently, the AC broke. When I asked about it, they said it was working fine, even though my room was 29°. If you want somewhere cheap and don’t care about breakfast or staying cool, this place could work for you.

We booked a room for two adults, but the bed could fit three, which was great. Even better, they charged us nothing, to my husband’s delight. Parking was free and breakfast was served too. The food could be improved, and it would help to have a power outlet by the bed so we could charge our phones without getting up.

The room was large, with a king bed, nice linens and comforter, and a TV. The bathroom was spacious too, and the air conditioner cooled the initially hot room after about 15-20 minutes. I asked for a fan, but it never arrived. There were a few roaches and some mold in the grout by the tub. Breakfast downstairs was a great Chinese meal, but you have to order it at the front desk the day before. Drinks were limited to espresso or coffee, with no orange juice, milk, or similar options. The staff were very cordial, though they didn’t speak much English.
