Hostel Jiizu

The bathrooms were clean, and there’s an accessible one. The stalls in the women’s room are very narrow, though that may just be city life. Getting here from the main station took more planning than I expected. A bus gets you close, but the stops are spread out and I spent a while figuring out which one to take, so leave extra time. The bunk setup was pretty basic: a shaky frame, a thin mattress that wouldn’t suit a side sleeper, and the top bunk’s ladder sits right in the lower bunk’s entrance. The individual lights also shine through, which makes it hard to sleep before your bunkmate if they keep theirs on.

The location worked well for me, close to the metro. But I booked a 14-bed dorm and got a small room with a very narrow walkway instead. The pillow was nearly flat, and having to put the duvet cover on myself was a real inconvenience.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the hostel is about 400 metres from the metro. ChiaTe pineapple cake store is nearby too. My private room was small but comfortable. The bathroom was roomy, though it felt cold in winter.

I was here for three nights in July 2017. The hostel is comfortable and close to the MRT, and the staff were friendly and spoke English. The rooms had strong air conditioning. It was much weaker in the kitchen and almost absent in the laundry room.
