Jianshan Hotel

It’s only a short walk to Taipei main station, and the location worked perfectly for visiting the historic areas nearby. I wanted a historic boutique hotel, so this was exactly the kind of place I was hoping to find. My room was clean and a decent size, and I really loved my stay.

The price was cheap for such a central spot. Our room had two bunk beds, with the beds lofted above a little seating area and table. There was a bathroom in the room, while the small fridge was shared in the hallway on our floor. Just be aware there’s no elevator.

The old fashioned Chinese decor gives this place a distinctive feel, and we haven’t stayed anywhere quite like it. The rooms are small, but nicely and neatly furnished to fit that retro look. Our double room was tiny, though comfortable enough. There’s no elevator, so you’ll need to use the stairs, but they have a pulley system to haul your luggage up. It’s simple and right in the center. We stayed here seven years ago, and I don’t think much has changed.

Dihua Street is very close, with its antique buildings and shops selling everything from handicrafts to dried seafood. The room felt tight, but it was enough for a short stay, and the high ceiling made it feel more spacious. Great value, too. Definitely recommend.
