Silken Hotel

For what I paid, the room was decent, though there were some issues. The bed was too small for me, but I'm tall and large. The door lock was broken and the air conditioning sounded strange, though neither bothered us. The hotel is in Zhongshan district, with a train station about a five-minute walk away and a 7-11 and Family Mart on the same street. The subway is the best way to get there, compared with the bus. My mother and I stayed four nights, from the 26th to the 30th in December before 2026, in room 302 on the third floor. On the second night, we experienced an earthquake, and one thing's for sure, the hotel can withstand one. It's not the best or worst hotel I've stayed in.

The free snacks don't make up for a building that feels hazardous. The room looked renovated, but we couldn't stay more than a couple of hours because the air was damp and smelled moldy, especially around the AC unit. We asked for a dehumidifier and got one. It read 88% humidity, but didn't solve the problem. Staff confirmed there were AC system issues throughout the building. We explained that we had lung problems and couldn't stay without getting worse, but they simply checked us out. This happened within 2-3 hours of check-in, and we received no compensation or refund for the unused nights. Don't come with small kids or asthma or other sickness.

I was happy to stay again at this wallet-friendly rate. The room was 305, with a large window that let in morning sunlight. Despite facing the road and a highway, it was hardly noisy. The gentleman at reception was always friendly and even pressed the lift for me. The lobby coffee machine was a godsend in the morning. The location isn't great, but the neighborhood is quiet, with a traditional Taiwanese breakfast shop and bus stops nearby. No wonder I saw quite a few Japanese seniors staying here.

I accidentally made a reservation from Spain and asked to cancel within 24 hours. I informed the hotel, but they wouldn't refund me. I think that was very unkind of them.
