The lobby at Sonnien doesn’t feel like a 4-star hotel by Taipei standards, but the rooms are nicely furnished, with real wood finishes and a comfortable bed. Soundproofing is excellent, it was very quiet, and the view of the old trees along Ren Ai street was soothing. Breakfast was acceptable, though in my opinion I’d skip it for a lower price or a better room. Zhongxiao Xinsheng station and the stylish Yong Kang Street are both within walking distance.

The room worked well, with strong AC, plenty of outlets, and a very good bathroom. The nearest convenience store is about a five-minute walk, and the Metro is under ten minutes away. Breakfast was below average.

The rooms were comfortable, and I really enjoyed having a bathtub for a relaxing soak, something many hotels with only showers don’t offer. Breakfast stood out too, with lots to choose from: cereal and eggs for my kids, Taiwanese dishes, and a fun range of drinks to try.

The room service was quite good. Our room was cool, so they brought us a portable heater, replaced the bath towels, and put fresh sheets on the bed. There are police stations on both sides of Sonnien Hotel, which is one plus. We stayed four nights, and on the last night new neighbours moved in next door. Their TV woke us at midnight, then they woke us again at 5:30 a.m. by talking and slamming the door twice. The walls are very thin. I attached a short video showing how clearly the sound came through. The toilet paper holder is awkwardly far back, so we put the roll on the ledge beside the toilet. The dining area is part of the lobby and gets crowded at meal times. Food selection was just adequate, nothing special. If you’re looking to save some money and don’t mind those issues, this place may work for you. Otherwise, you might want to stay elsewhere. 🤔

The staff were excellent, and we had a great stay. The beds were comfortably firm, the shower and bidet were nice, and the room stayed quiet and dark with the lights off. It’s in a prime Taipei location. Breakfast was an okay buffet with something for everyone. Extras are limited, but there’s parking and coin laundry onsite.
