My niece booked online for her mom, who was visiting Taiwan after many years in the United States. At check-in, the receptionist assigned to us was initially unhelpful and arrogant, and told us the room hadn’t been paid for. Because the credit card holder wasn’t the guest, he wanted my niece to appear in front of us and sign the receipt. I explained that she was in the United States, but he kept insisting she needed to appear. I asked whether someone who isn’t the cardholder can’t book online, and said the hotel receptionist should be able to help with an online booking problem. I felt humiliated by the way he handled it. After I insisted, he asked if he could video call my niece, and then he did help. 😔

I liked staying here and would come back. The front desk staff were kind and could speak English, the rooms had a nice modern look, and the Wi-Fi was strong. The free buffet breakfast was a bonus, with a wide range of choices laid out on a small table. It wasn’t five-star food and could be cold sometimes, but I was impressed by what they managed in such a small space. A few things could be better: the renovation had little workmanship flaws, like doorknobs that didn’t cover the old holes. I couldn’t work out the TV remote, and the thermostat seemed to offer AC but no heat. The bathroom had a handy storage thermostat control. Beds and pillows were very firm, the comforter didn’t cover the bed properly, and the old couch was too soft to sit on, with just a cloth covering it.

We stayed in room206 for about a month while our family traveled around Taiwan. It was quiet and spacious, and the wooden floor was clean. My kids didn’t have any allergies there. The staff were kind and nice, including Mr. Fong. We had a pleasant stay and would return when we visit Taiwan again.

The Wi-Fi was strong, and the room was cleaned every day with fresh linen. I was upgraded to a superior room for my last nights in Taipei, with a comfortable bed and a sitting area. It’s a short distance from Zhongshan Elementary School MRT. The bathroom was a little odd, with a square-shaped bath. The shower had good pressure, though it was too short for a westerner.

There’s a small night market about a five-minute walk from Taipei Lotty Hotel, with some amazing local food. It’s a nice alternative if you don’t want the big crowds at Taipei’s popular night markets. I’ve stayed at Taipei Lotty Hotel several times over the past few years, and the rooms are very large and clean. The bed is comfortable, and I think it was even larger on my recent stay in April 2015. I’m especially fond of the service: the front desk staff are attentive and good at pointing me in the right direction, and everyone is friendly. They also serve Taiwanese breakfast. The hotel is near an MRT station, with lots of restaurants, shops, and museums around. I’ll definitely stay again on my next Taipei trip.
