It’s an old building, and rooms without windows smell damp even with the dehumidifier running all day. The washer/dryer service sounded appealing, but it was hit or miss. It was usually occupied late at night or early in the morning, so I used a laundry store a few minutes away. I managed to use the machines once, in the late morning. The location was good, with lots of restaurants nearby and Shuanglian station close. Rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable, and all the staff were very friendly and polite. The snack area was cozy, with drinks, snacks, and instant noodles. You can also borrow an umbrella, which was really helpful on rainy days.

We’d booked the night before so we could go straight to our room after the flight, shower, nap, and get refreshed before heading out around noon. That extra night was money well spent. The staff were helpful and quick to answer questions both before we arrived and during our stay. By the time we got to the hotel, we were exhausted, soaked, and getting grumpy.

The hotel has a modern look that’s a surprise in this old district. We had free snacks and hot and cold drinks, and the staff were courteous and attentive, with local travel tips whenever we needed help. It’s also very convenient for the MRT and buses, with plenty of local restaurants and breakfast stalls nearby.

The room felt cramped, and although we booked a non-smoking room, I could smell cigarette smoke in it. The carpet and furniture also seemed dated. On the plus side, the front desk was friendly, snacks and drinks were complimentary, and the downtown location has plenty of shops nearby and is close to the night market.

They keep snacks and drinks available around the clock, and even provide little one-time-use items like dental floss and mouthwash. Via Hotel feels cozy, and the staff are really kind and accommodating.
