Ximen Citizen Hotel - Classic

The receptionist was kind and helpful, and the location near Ximending was great. But after two nights, I wouldn’t come back. The room was small, old, dingy, and damp, with a moldy smell. There was black mold around the tub, and I suspect there was mold in the A/C too.

We stayed February 6-10, 2026. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were nice. It’s near ximending, which was perfect, and they offered free coffee in the lobby.

The location is excellent, about a 5-10 minute walk from the train station and a few streets from the city center. It wasn’t very noisy at night, and the room was fairly clean with windows you could open. The hotel has two buildings a few shops apart. The first one had a reception desk near the entrance, where one very nice and helpful receptionist told us our room was in the other building. That second building’s reception was farther inside, and the receptionist never looked up when people came or went. Checked-out guests’ luggage sat unattended to the side, and anyone could take it. There was no restriction on using the elevator to reach guest floors. I saw a few teens leave the fire door on my floor open to smoke, and couldn’t tell if they were guests or just people passing through. We had only one key for a double room, and the door lock was so basic that I put all my valuables in train station lockers every day. There was also a platform outside the windows, another security concern, with no extra protection I could see against someone getting in while we were out during the day. The staff attitude and security were the biggest problems. I took a photo of the lock, and we were only given a key for the lower lock. WiFi in my room barely worked, and reception was no help after we reported it.

Right in the heart of Ximending (XMD), the hotel was handy for shopping and food. They had complimentary lobby coffee and a water dispenser. The rooms were pretty basic, though. You can hear people next door and in the hallway because there’s basically no soundproofing. The toilet works fine, but the space is cramped. With only one lift that fits six people, you may have to wait. The Wi-Fi sometimes needed disconnecting and reconnecting. If you’re three people, I’d suggest booking a room for four for extra space and comfort. You can also extend your stay for TWD 200 per hour if you don’t want to check out too early.
